ERGOBASIC – THE CONTROLS

The new ErgoBasic operating concept was developed on the basis of the tried and tested ErgoPlus 3 operating system and tailored specifically to the needs and requirements of users of VÖGELE Classic Line pavers.

- ErgoBasic can be operated just as quickly, accurately and intuitively as the ErgoPlus 3 operating system for “Dash 3” machines.

- Symbols for identical functions are taken from the “Dash 3” operating console.

Protection against vandalism

The paver operator’s console of the SUPER 1600 and SUPER 1603 can be protected against vandalism with a non-shatter, lockable cover.

All functions are clustered in logical groups. Waterproof function keys can even be operated when wearing gloves. Backlit symbols for dusk and night-time operations. Function and status LED indicators. The “Touch and work” principle also comes into play with ErgoBasic. Once the appropriate button has been pressed, the function starts immediately.

This was developed specifically for the ErgoBasic operating system of the new Classic Line pavers and is characterized by:

- logical arrangement of the buttons according to functional processes for safe and intuitive operation

- rugged design to suit field conditions for the particular requirements on the jobsite

- direct access to the material handling systems and the sonic sensor for the auger

2. SIMPLE AUTOMATED GRADE AND SLOPE CONTROL WITH NIVELTRONIC BASIC

To suit the ErgoBasic operating concept, the SUPER 1600 and the SUPER 1603 have  Niveltronic Basic Automated Grade and Slope Control.

- The system is fully integrated in the machine control unit.

- Niveltronic Basic is a convincing feature with its simple, intuitive handling.

- Each side of the screed is operated independently.

- The remote controls are located in a magnetic bracket and can be taken off at any time. This gives the screed operator greater freedom of movement.

The System for Automated Grade and Slope Control can simultaneously be connected to two grade sensors and a slope sensor. The SUPER 1600 and the SUPER 1603 can be combined with the Big Multiplex Ski.

3. MAXIMUM POWER WITH MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY

The modern drive concept of the SUPER 1600 and SUPER 1603 ensures high power for low consumption.

Modern, liquid-cooled diesel engine:   - Four-cylinder diesel engine producing 116kW at 2,000rpm   - Intelligent engine management using ECO mode (106kW at 1,700rpm)   - Sufficient for most paving applications   - Fuel-saving   - Especially quiet
Large cooler assembly   - Full performance potential for the drive machine   - Controlled fan for consistently optimum temperatures. Ensures a long life for diesel engine and hydraulic oil   - Suitable for every climate in the world
Splitter gearbox flanged to the engine   - Directly supplies all hydraulic consumers with hydraulic oil   - Pumps and valves are centrally located, making them easily accessible for servicing.   - The powerful generator for screed heating is flanged directly to the splitter gearbox and has no V-belt, making it completely maintenance-free

The SUPER 1600 and the SUPER 1603 meet US exhaust emissions EPA Tier 3 (Environmental Protection Agency) and European exhaust emissions stage 3a. There are currently two standards for the global use of engines:

- Exhaust emissions stage 4 and EPA Tier 4f for Europe/USA/Canada/Japan

- Exhaust emissions stage 3a and EPA Tier 3 for all other countries

4. OPTIMUM MATERIAL MANAGEMENT FOR TOP PAVE QUALITY

Feeding with mix is safe and simple

- The SUPER 1600 and SUPER 1603 can be fed extremely cleanly, safely and quickly thanks to: large, sturdy material hopper, low hopper sides which spread wide, particularly wide push-rollers, rugged rubber baffles

The material hopper has a capacity of 13 tonnes. As a result, there is always enough mix available at all paving stations.

Low hopper sides which spread wide make it easier to feed the mix.

Especially wide and oscillating push-rollers for convenient, shock-free docking by feed vehicles – even on bends.

Rugged rubber baffles also ensure that mix is transferred cleanly.

A continuous flow of material ensures a perfect head of mix in front of the screed and thus top paving quality. The components below ensure optimum material management:

-  Conveyors and augers

-  Proportional control of mix feed

-  Large-diameter auger blades

-  Manual auger height adjustment

Powerful, separate hydraulic drives for conveyors and augers achieve high laydown rates up to 600t/h.

Proportional control and continuous quantity monitoring of mix feed guarantee a constant head of mix in front of the screed to suit requirements.

Large-diameter auger blades (400mm) ensure excellent spreading of mix, even when paving in large widths.

The height of the auger complete with bearing boxes and limiting plates for the auger tunnel – can be hydraulically adjusted by up to 15cm across the full pave width.

Sonic sensor for the auger

A sonic sensor for the auger measures the output of the augers for precision transport of mix to suit requirements.

- In automatic mode, auger output can be adjusted separately for the right and left-hand sides to suit pave width using the plus and minus buttons of the ErgoBasic operating console.

- LEDs display the value set in per cent.

5. HIGH DEGREE OF COMPACTION AND FLEXIBLE PAVE WIDTHS

The SUPER 1600 and the SUPER 1603 can be combined with the AB 480 TV Extending Screed. This screed is ideal for: urban construction projects, construction of small roads and squares, single-lane road rehabilitation, construction of agricultural tracks

Values for the AB 480 TV Extending Screed: The AB 480 Extending Screed can be infinitely adjusted to pave widths of 2.55m to 4.8m. With bolt-on extensions, maximum pave width is 6.3m (2 x 75cm). The AB 480 Extending Screed is available in the TV compaction variant with tamper and vibrators. Layer thickness is up to 30cm

AB 480 TV Extending Screed - in detail:

- Adjustable side plates

- Excellent floating and paving performance

- Safe, convenient screed step

The mechanical side plates are very simple for the operator and the height can be adjusted safely from the walkway.

The arrangement of tamper and wear bar allows paving to be completed at a very shallow planing angle. This gives rise to the excellent floating behaviour which in turn ensures optimum precompaction and a high degree of evenness.

The centrally-positioned screed step allows quick and convenient access to the operator's platform. The walkway is especially wide and vibration-damped.

AB 480 TV Extending Screed - the highlights:

- Better view of auger tunnel

- More rapid attachment of the bolt-on extensions: red hook to hang them from, green bolts for adjusting and locking in position

- Innovative heating system: minimum loss of heat, short heating-up time, homogeneous heat distribution

The AB 480 is based on the AB 500: It is equipped with powerful electric heating which quickly and evenly brings the screed to operating temperature. The thermal image shows the even temperature distribution

The crawler tracks

Long crawler tracks with a large footprint provide for maximum tractive effort, ensuring a constant forward speed even when operating on difficult terrain. Positive tracking when moving straight and accurate cornering due to electronically controlled separate drives provided for both crawler tracks.

The wheeled undercarriage

The undercarriage with its individual hydraulic drives which are independent of one another ensures optimum traction.

- Standard drive: 2 rear wheels (6x2)

- Option: 2 rear and 2 front wheels (6x4)

The Pivot Steer steering brake

The new standard Pivot Steer function makes the SUPER 1603 wheeled paver almost as nimble as the SUPER 1600 tracked paver: a minimal internal radius enables the machines to turn virtually on the spot. The minimum turning circle is 3.5m. The Pivot Steer steering brake reduces the torque of the rear inner wheel. The function is active in repositioning mode and works both when driving forward and reversing.

Brief aside - comparison with the SUPER 1600-3(i)

- The SUPER 1600 and the SUPER 1600-3(i) are virtually identical in design. However, the SUPER 1600 has none of the “Dash 3” features and is operated using ErgoBasic.

- SUPER 1600-3(i): Maximum pave width: 7.5m, ErgoPlus 3 with Niveltronic Plus Automated Grade and Slope Control, VÖGELE EcoPlus, AutoSet Plus, PaveDock, PaveDock Assistant, AB 500 and AB 600 Extending Screeds.

- SUPER 1600-3(i): Pave widths of 7m and 7.5m are available with additional equipment on request.
